Security Breach in Lok Sabha During Parliament Attack Anniversary: Updates




On Wednesday, during the Winter Session of Parliament, a security breach occurred in the Lok Sabha, resulting in the detention of four individuals. Two unidentified persons breached security by jumping into the Lok Sabha chamber, while two others were detained outside for protesting with colored smoke. The incident unfolded on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack by Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists.


Details of the Incident:

The Lok Sabha witnessed a significant security breach as two unidentified individuals jumped into the chamber from the visitors' gallery. The entire incident was captured on camera,

prompting Members of Parliament to evacuate the House. The intruders shouted slogans and released gas, causing chaos.


The Delhi Police swiftly detained the two intruders identified as Sagar Sharma (son of Shankarlal Sharma) and 35-year-old Manoranjan D, an engineer from Mysuru. Both were apprehended inside the Lok Sabha. Simultaneously, outside the Parliament building, a man and a woman named Amol Shinde (25) and Neelam (42) were detained for protesting with cans emitting yellowish smoke.


MP Accounts:

Members of Parliament recounted the chaotic scene, with Congress MP Karti Chidambaram expressing concern about the potential toxicity of the emitted smoke. Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dimple Yadav criticized the lack of identification tags for visitors and reporters, emphasizing the need for improved security measures.


2001 Parliament Attack Anniversary:

The incident coincided with the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists. The attackers' attempt to storm Parliament House was thwarted by security personnel, resulting in the deaths of nine individuals, including eight security personnel.


Response from Lok Sabha Speaker:

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed the House, confirming the arrest of the intruders and the seizure of materials. He stated that the smoke, according to preliminary investigations, was of an ordinary nature. Additionally, India Today accessed a visitor pass issued to one of the detainees, Sagar Sharma, issued in BJP MP Pratap Simha's name.
